Thailand Trip

Miao First Songkran in Khon Kaen!!

Songkran is the New Year for Thais.

This year i suppose to go Bangkok for Songkran but unfortunately due to some timing we had to skip and move my Bangkok trip to May.

When I thought I gonna missed out Songkran this year, I was fortunate to be invited by AirAsia for the Songkran in Khon Kaen, Thailand! Woohoo!! Thank you AirAsia!!

And so, I was in Khon Kaen last week for my first water festival!!

Look at all the humans!! People mountain people sea!!!

It was way more happening than I thought. It’s like the whole city population on the street.

And yes, Chingy got separate from us and got lost in less than 20 minutes. 😐 #winliaolor

They closed up part of the city and streets for the Songkran. It’s basically like a big huge carnival. There are food stalls along the sides leading to the main street.

Over at the main street, there are many stages along each side of the streets with performances and shows for the people. They called them water stations because they have water containers for you to refilled your water guns and also shoot you with.

Look what i found.

AirAsia water station!

View from the AirAsia stage.

It’s kinda scary up here due to the slippery floor.

I really have to salute those dancers who performed on AirAsia dance showdown. I hardly can walk properly but those people can just dance on it.

Then comes the water war.

I ran away from him after that. The fat boy was scary.

The Thailand policemen were so sporting lor. Playing with water guns with all the civilians. Here’s a photo of him refilling his “ammo” at AirAsia water station.

A photo of us XD

When I first heard that they play powder at Songkran. My first impression was like…

then when i was there..

they greet you while holding to a bottle of powder. Then smile with you while showing you the powder in their hands. They were so polite that I nodded to them and allowed them to put powder on me. How can anyone reject such politeness.

And the one putting the powder was just a random uncle. I can’t imagine if it’s a cute Thai girl OAO

Look at my face. :>

I took a walk to the stage next door and it was getting more serious over there. It’s scary.

But not for this boy, i bet it was his best day of his life. hahaha

Here’s a short video of it.

I don’t know why it’s just 240p :< Sorry about that.

Maiku (dammit)! I still missing Songkran, I’m so gonna head back next year.

Songkran is held on every 2nd week of April. All cities in Thailand celebrate it, but each with its own vibe and crowd. If you have celebrate Songkran in other cities before, do check out the one here in Khon Kaen too.

If you have not experienced Songkran, it’s a must-do-once in a lifetime. It’s best to start planning now. 😀

Khon Kaen is about 60 minutes flight away from Bangkok with 4x daily flights.

The Different Sceneries of Bario

One of the things to do in Bario: Photography

So what do in Bario beside eat until you break the weighting machine at the Bario Food Fest? Well, if you like to take photos, you will enjoy here. Beside taking potraits of the Kelabits people.

Bario is a very unique place to offer a few different feels of scenery in one place.

The Misty Village

I love this period of time the most. The whole place is so dreamy with the thick mist.

and when you got tired, you can have a cup of coffee by the road.

The Green & Blue Countryside View

During the late afternoon, it’s great to have a drive/walk around the village.

If only the road were well tar, then it would be great for cycling.

I was able to visit some Kelabit longhouses there and found out it is very different from the other ethnics longhouse design. Kelabit longhouse has a common kitchen. Everyone cook and eats together.

Oh ya, you can just walk into people’s house as if you stay there. LOL

 The Purple Sunset.

As you can see, this is my favorite spot in Bario. XD

I was running like mad to reach there before the sun truly set. Too bad I was a little late.

I wasn’t really prepared for Bario and missed out a couple of nice shooting spots.

Nevertheless, here are some from my friends who I met in Bario.

This spot is just few minutes walk from my Longhouse. Too bad I didn’t manage to go else can get a good shot of the milky way.

The Milky Way Sky in Bario

Be hold!! The night sky in Bario.

It was soooo amazing. I was like…

Too bad I do not have a tripod with me, else I’m so gonna take a plane wreck + milky way combo!! hahaha

There’s this magical thing about this place. I guessed its the mood of the place and the heart warming people I met there. I think I missed the  most is the story telling session we had every night by the fire pit with a glass of home made pineapple wine, “Ada lagi”.

…….Okay, I admit I miss the pineapple wine. XP

Too bad, Uncle don’t allow us to take it out of Bario.

Must have items into Bario: – Sunblock ,  – DSLR Camera, – DSLR Stand, – Torch light, – Marshmallow (BBQ it at the firepit),

– Instant Tom Yam noodle (it’s a enjoyment to eat hot tomyam noodle in a cold weather) XD

optional: – Hiking equipment (if you’re into hiking)

A BIG THANK YOU to our flight sponsor,

homestay provider,

the amazing  Uncle David and Auntie Lucy from Labang Homestay  (site).

and all other new friends we met there for the great memories. :)

Bario Sarawak Trip

Never Judge a Destination by Its Photo.

So I went to Bario last month and didn’t brought any long pants with me. And it was one of my biggest mistake on the trip.

The photos on the internet so far was so misleading. None of them looks cold but the temperature actually dropped down to 14 degree Celsius on the first day.

The most scariest part is the wind and the fact that Bario means Valley of Wind makes it even scarier.

Look at the mist.

And I wasn’t the only one..  hahahaha phew

My friend who went with me only wore only a singlet and shorts. Hahahahahaha

The Stupid duos.
